Kado: The Way of Flowers

This pilgrimage to Kyoto and environs is being taken by 11 students of Japanese flower arranging known as Ikebana. Our teacher, Marcia, was first introduced to this art form by the Tibetan Buddhist Teacher, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, as a form of meditative art. Her focus in teaching us is on observing the world, reflected both internally, as well as externally through the creation of flower arrangements. We follow the traditional principles of Ikebana, an ancient art first developed in China, but fully embraced today by the Japanese. We are going to Japan to experience lessons from current teachers from the three major schools, Ikenobo, Ohara and Sogetsu, to witness the various approaches to the Way of Flower practice today.
